In contrast to Roman blinds the vertical blinds are hung vertically on a rail. To keep the verticakl blind smooth and straight and to protect those from draft weights are attached to the lower parts which are connected by a chain in order to prevent the vertical blind from getting tangled. The vertikal blind are made of a stronger fabric to guarantee smoothness.
For allergists the verticL blind are available antibacterial-treated which prevents germs from sticking on the fabric. For protecting the room from heat the fabric can also be aluminum coated. Vertical blinds are mainly used as light protection in offices. Cleaning the vertical blinds is hardly necessary since they hang vertically and dirt can hardly accumulate.
The curtain is opened by pulling the vertical blinds together. This can be performed either manually or automatically. By pulling an endless cord the curtain can be opened and closed and the vertical blind turned around their own axis. With a remote or sensors the vertical blind can be adjusted automatically by means of an electric motor to ensure an optimal sun protection. The closed vertical blinds are called packages. These packages can –depending on their shape- be parked in different places.
Normally, the vertical blinds will have a rectangular shape. But other shapes are possible as well. For roof pitches so called “slope devices” are being used, where the runners are mounted in a slope way and the vertical blind are longer on the lateral sides. For parking the packages have to be pulled to the higher side so that the longer certical blinds do not touch the ground. For other shapes the verticlak blind may also be bent. For slope surfaces such as roof windows two runners (top and bottom) are mounted.
